UK’s large water utility companies typically design and deliver their 5-year Asset Management Plan with a consortium or individual partners. The programme assurance team of one of the utilities have been collecting monthly assurance data of the entire programme to understand possible risks and run them through their delivery partners every month.
The assurance team was keen to know if the Machine can tell more than what a human brain can capture and comprehend from the monthly assurance data. It was decided to create a proof of concept using past data of six months from the previous projects to understand if a machine can bring out useful insights for assuring the programme delivery. The proof of concept led to a pilot project that would –
- be able to predict an outcome of various project milestones,
- be able to understand the impact of various project activities from the start to the end of a project on the outcome.
The successful delivery of the pilot raised the expectations to develop a complete custom solution that would take monthly assurance data and predict the outcome of the projects and programme at milestone level and suggest activities that need to be focused on that impact delivery of the milestones at a project level.
The tool is working satisfactorily and proving value to the client in assuring their capital delivery programme
